Today is Dad’s first birthday in heaven. But I’m grateful.

He spent his last years on hospice.

Suffering.
In pain.

Lovingly cared for by my Mom.

When his suffering finally ended, I was relieved. Because I know where Dad is. Healed, whole, and having the best Good Friday of His life!

That’s the promise of Resurrection weekend.

On the first Good Friday, Jesus suffered and died for our sin and sickness.

I prayed and believed for Dad’s illness to be healed in the here and now. The promise of everlasting healing in forever is so much more … GOOD.

My birthday is Sunday. In 49 years, I’ve only had one other Easter birthday. A perfect fit. Almost like God is orchestrating everything. Somehow.

Dad’s first birthday in heaven. My first birthday on Easter.

Left to the here and now, I am reflecting on the goodness of God …

To Save us completely,
To Redeem us fully,
To Rescue us from death,
To Give us a Hope and a Future.

The little boy in awe at his Pappy’s birthday pie is now 17 years old.

Time moves quickly. At some point soon, all of us will pass on.

The Good News this Good Friday? It doesn’t have to end HERE. Jesus is waiting for us to live forever with Him!

Even better news. He is wanting to live with us here and now. We don’t have to wait until heaven to experience Jesus!

If you’ve never given your life to Jesus, or if you’re not sure if you have. Message me. Let me pray for you. There’s nothing I want more on my Dad’s first birthday in heaven than to help you experience the Love of God my Dad knew and shared with so many.

If you believe in Jesus, bring someone with you to church Sunday who needs Him! Happy Resurrection weekend!

And Happy Birthday, Dad! I’ll see you in heaven!

Mark Rowan

Recently I heard the widespread adoption of AI was only a few months long compared to the internet being years before it was universally accepted. So that means everyone has an AI solution or they think they do.

This not an anti-AI post. Maybe an anti-“furry 2-stepping with Jesus” post.

No, the real point here is that whether it is AI or some other business tactic or marketing strategy, we don’t need to jump straight in it without asking first: is it right for me, my business, my ministry?

In the Kingdom of God, my position is that followers of Christ should be making room for God and His wisdom before anything else.

Another believer may have great success doing a particular activity but that does not gives us license to immediately adopt it.

I know I like a good shortcut. AI proliferation is based on that eternal human need to cut corners it seems. While AI, other people’s experience, successes and failures can be great stepping stones for our own efforts, when we lean too much on what someone else is doing verses leaning on God, we can get a weird sheep dancing with Jesus pic … or something.

My suggestion? The 2000 Cubit Rule from Joshua 3:4. Never heard of it? You have not gone this way before so you need to make room for God (ark of covenant) and you will know which way to go.

I think your picture will come out much nicer.

That’s me in the red hoodie with my cousins John and Jason. I was about 7 or 8 here. We’re hanging out in the dairy barn …probably up to no good.

My dad grew up milking the cows before school in that barn. When this pic was taken there were zero Holsteins to be found on our property and SHEEP were roaming the hills of the Rowan farm.

Fast forward a few years this old barn had found a new purpose. In my middle school years I began helping my dad “hork” out tons of old manure (cow poo) from the floors. We were making room for the next thing which was Psalm 23 Camp.

My parents wanted a positive place for young people to come and learn about taking care of God’s land His way.

By the time I finished high school that old barn had a complete face lift. You’d barely recognize it. Same structure but a completely new look and more importantly a new purpose.

Over the course of nearly 30 years, it saw 100s if not 1000s of youth come through that building.

What started with one thing in the mind of my Grandpa Claude, God saw fit to repurpose it for His use.

What do you have in your hands that may be broken down, old, worn out that has a new and even greater purpose hidden within?

In God’s grand design and wisdom, He can take that which looks like it is finished and make it brand new and even more impactful.
