When you think of discipline, you might picture grit, hustle, or early mornings. But for Sean Conlon, discipline isn’t just a productivity principle. It’s a spiritual pathway to freedom, focus, and fruitfulness in business and life.

Sean, founder of multiple Kingdom-driven ventures and the ROI Discipleship movement, joined Mark and Dr. Je on The Corral Call to unpack how God used discipline to redeem his life, reshape his leadership, and transform his businesses from self-built to Spirit-led.

From Building His Own Kingdom to Building God’s

Sean’s entrepreneurial story began with promise and pride.

He studied accounting, worked hard, and quickly discovered a love for business and numbers. But that same gift became his greatest temptation.

“Half of my journey as an entrepreneur was spent building my own kingdom,” Sean shared. “The other half , redeemed, has been in partnership with the Lord.”

He built successful companies, but behind the accolades came pressure, anxiety, and emptiness.

“Entrepreneurship became an idol. I asked God to bless what I was building instead of asking what He wanted me to build.”

Then came a breaking point ... a radical encounter with the Holy Spirit that changed everything.

“God turned the volume of entrepreneurship down so I could finally hear His voice.”

Through fasting, repentance, and surrender, Sean realized that discipline isn’t about control — it’s about alignment.

The 5K God Used to Change His Heart

At 33, Sean reflected on Jesus’ life and felt convicted.

“Jesus died at 33 after three years of ministry that changed the world. I looked back at my last three years and thought, ‘What have I done for the Kingdom?’”

In prayer, God gave him a simple command: run 3.3 miles a day.

That first run turned into a daily discipline. One he’s kept for over 2,200 consecutive days (more than six years). Even a broken toe couldn’t stop him.

“It wasn’t about running. It was about consistency, obedience, and learning to say ‘yes’ when my flesh said no.”

That daily act of discipline became a spiritual anchor: a reminder that small, repeated obedience leads to massive transformation.

From Physical Routine to Spiritual Renewal

Running became a metaphor for Sean’s faith walk.

“I realized I was disciplined in business and fitness, but spiritually undisciplined. God used this practice to show me what real surrender looks like.”

Through the years, God revealed new lessons with each mile:

  • Year 1: Obedience matters more than comfort.
  • Year 2: Consistency crushes complacency.
  • Year 3: Discipline births discernment.
  • Year 6: Do it in community. Don’t run alone.

Sean now encourages others to identify one “refuse-to-fail” discipline, a daily act that strengthens faith and resilience.

“Pray with God about one thing to be relentlessly consistent in. It’s not about works. It’s about saying, ‘Lord, I’m available.’”

When Discipline Meets the Spirit

Mark connected Sean’s story to the fruit of the Spirit: self-control.

“Discipline is not something we manufacture; it’s evidence that the Holy Spirit is in control.”

Sean agreed, reminding listeners that discipline begins with devotion:

“It’s not about checking boxes. It’s about a heart that says, ‘I want to go deeper.’”

He challenged leaders to evaluate their mornings:

  • What’s the first thing you reach for? Your phone or your Bible?
  • Do you start with prayer or performance?
  • Are you working with God, or asking Him to bless what you’ve already decided?

“If you care about hearing God more clearly, you must slow down long enough to listen.”

The Power of Fasting

Among all spiritual disciplines, Sean calls fasting the most transformative.

“Some things only come about through prayer and fasting. That’s not a suggestion. It’s a promise.”

He described his first 21-day fast as both brutal and beautiful:

  • Days 1–3: physical pain, mental fog, temptation to quit.
  • Days 4–18: mental clarity, deeper prayer, divine downloads.
  • Days 19–21: breakthrough and renewal.

“It’s like entrepreneurship. Breakthrough usually comes right after you want to quit.”

For Sean, fasting broke strongholds of fear, idolatry, and self-reliance. It taught him how to decrease so Christ could increase.

Discipline in the Valley

Sean also spoke candidly about disappointment, discouragement, and depression: the “three D’s” every leader faces.

“Those moments don’t define you. They refine you.”

Just like fasting, the darkest parts of the process often precede the dawn.

“Joy comes in the morning. Breakthrough comes right after you’re most tempted to give up.”

He connected this to Paul’s teaching in Romans 5 that perseverance through trials produces character and hope.

ROI Discipleship: Where Business Meets Biblical Growth

Sean now pours his time into ROI Discipleship, a movement helping Christian entrepreneurs build Kingdom businesses in community.

Each group brings together 10–12 leaders for a day of:

  • Biblical teaching — applying Scripture to business.
  • Practical sharpening — tools for leadership and growth.
  • Issue processing — solving real business challenges with godly counsel.
  • Prayer partnerships — leaders praying for one another daily.

“Entrepreneurship can be lonely. ROI creates a place for accountability, wisdom, and Spirit-led growth.”

The Montana Longhorn Mission

Beyond discipleship, Sean’s holding company also owns Montana Longhorn, a ranch producing premium, healthy beef as part of his Kingdom vision for holistic stewardship.

“We want to honor God through what we put in our bodies building healthier people, families, and communities.”

And yes, it’s literally the best burger you’ll ever eat.

The Final Word

Sean closed with a challenge that sums up his journey:

“Most people are still asking, ‘What’s my purpose?’ That’s okay. Just take one step toward Jesus today. Walk with Him, abide in Him, and trust that He’ll reveal it in time.”

Discipline doesn’t start with striving. It starts with surrender. And that’s how God transforms both lives and businesses.
