How do we restore faith, family, and freedom in a culture that seems determined to tear them down?
That’s the question Joseph Kohm III, Vice President of Public Policy at Family Policy Alliance, has dedicated his life to answering. On this week’s Corral Call, Joseph joined Mark and Dr. Jay to talk about why Christians can’t afford to stay silent, how policy shapes the future of families, and why faith in action—not fear—will restore America.
A Legacy of Faith and Leadership
Joseph comes from a family rooted in faith and public service. His father, a Regent University Law graduate turned Anglican priest, and his mother, a law professor at Regent, modeled what it means to integrate faith and vocation.
“I’m just trying to live up to the legacy of my father and grandfather,” Joseph said.
After studying at the Virginia Military Institute and serving as a U.S. Army officer in the 10th Mountain Division, Joseph returned home to Virginia Beach and joined Family Policy Alliance (FPA)—a ministry originally founded by Dr. James Dobson as part of Focus on the Family.
Today, Joseph leads FPA’s national and global efforts to defend biblical values, family structure, and life from conception to natural death.
Why Christians Must Engage in Politics
Politics, Joseph says, isn’t a dirty word—it’s simply the civic process by which people are governed.
“Politics should matter to you because they matter to Jesus,” he explained. “They affect the most vulnerable people and the institutions God created—especially the family.”
He reminded listeners that the family has always been in the enemy’s crosshairs. From the corruption of marriage in the Old Testament to today’s confusion around gender and identity, the enemy’s strategy hasn’t changed—it’s just evolved.
That’s why FPA’s mission is clear:
“We’re fighting for a nation where God is honored, families thrive, and life is cherished.”
Building Alliances for Change
FPA works across three pillars:
- Policy: Advocating biblical values in legislation and culture.
- Family: Strengthening parents, protecting children, and upholding God’s design.
- Alliance: Equipping and uniting faith-based organizations and leaders.
Through their Statesmen Academy and School Board Academy, FPA trains elected officials and school board members to govern with biblical conviction.
“We’re helping leaders at every level—local, state, and federal—apply a biblical worldview to real-world policy,” Joseph shared.
FPA also partners with more than 40 state-based organizations and international allies to mobilize prayer, education, and advocacy worldwide.
Faith, Freedom, and the Power of Prayer
As the nation continues to grapple with cultural division, Joseph insists that prayer is not passive—it’s powerful.
“Your prayers make more of a difference than you can imagine,” he said. “We saw Roe v. Wade overturned after 60 years of prayer and faithful action. That doesn’t happen without the hand of God.”
He also highlighted FPA’s sister ministry, Christians Engaged, which helps believers take tangible steps to impact their communities through a simple call to action: Pray. Vote. Engage.
Responding to Crisis and Reviving Hope
Joseph spoke candidly about recent acts of political violence in America—including the tragic murder of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA.
“It broke my heart to see that happen live. But out of tragedy, we’re seeing revival—especially among young people,” he said.
Joseph noted that students across the nation are returning to church, buying Bibles, and rediscovering what it means to live courageously for truth.
“Young people are realizing that if they want to marry or follow leaders like Charlie and Erica Kirk, they need to become people of faith, courage, and conviction,” Joseph said. “That’s where restoration begins.”
The Path Forward: Faith in Action
Looking ahead, Joseph and the Family Policy Alliance are focused on:
- Protecting parental rights—especially in the digital age.
- Defending women’s sports through the Save Girls Sports campaign.
- Championing religious freedom in cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.
- Educating and equipping believers to engage in local and state-level elections.
“If you care about truth, family, and freedom, then God has a role for you in the civic process,” Joseph said. “The question is—will you answer the call?”
