Zach Norris – From Identity in Work to Identity in Christ

There are moments in life when things don’t go the way you planned. Doors close. Opportunities fall through. The path you thought was certain suddenly disappears.

For Zach Norris, that wasn’t the end of the story. It was the beginning.

In this episode of the 2000 Cubit Rule, we sit down with Zach, founder of Lamb Telecom, to talk about business, calling, and what it looks like to follow God when the plan changes.

When the Plan Falls Apart

Zach’s original vision was clear. Study finance. Land a role in investment banking. Build a successful career.

He did everything right. Applied to dozens of opportunities. Networked. Pursued internships. Checked all the boxes.

And still, nothing worked.

One rejection after another. Closed doors everywhere he turned.

At the time, Zach wasn’t following Christ. Like many people, his identity was tied to success, performance, and what he could achieve. So when those opportunities disappeared, it hit deeper than just career frustration.

It felt personal.

Looking back, those “no’s” were not setbacks. They were redirection.

The Opportunity That Changed Everything

Eventually, a door opened, just not the one Zach expected.

A telecom company gave him an opportunity, not because of his finance background, but because of his ability to communicate and his experience with languages.

What started as an internship quickly turned into something more. He moved into roles involving product management and customer intelligence, gaining insight into how businesses actually operate and make decisions.

Then came another shift, moving into a sales role in the telecom space.

And that’s when the thought hit him:

“I could do this on my own.”

From Career to Calling

Around this same time, everything changed on a deeper level.

Zach encountered Christ.

What had once been a pursuit of success became something entirely different. His identity was no longer rooted in performance or career outcomes. It was rooted in being a son of God.

That shift changed how he saw work.

Instead of asking, “How do I succeed?” the question became, “How do I serve?”

And that’s where Lamb Telecom was born.

Building a Business That Serves the Church

Lamb Telecom isn’t just another telecom advisory company.

It was built with a mission.

Zach and his team help churches, ministries, and organizations find better technology solutions, everything from internet and phone systems to cybersecurity and infrastructure. But the model is what sets it apart.

They don’t charge churches.

Instead, they provide free advisory services and help organizations reduce unnecessary expenses. To date, they’ve helped save ministries millions of dollars in technology costs.

That’s not just good business. That’s stewardship.

It’s a picture of what happens when business becomes a vehicle for Kingdom impact.

From the U.S. to South Korea

Zach’s story doesn’t stop at business.

Today, he and his wife are living in South Korea, serving with a local church plant while continuing to run Lamb Telecom remotely.

It’s not the easiest setup. His workday often starts early in the morning to align with U.S. time zones. The cultural differences are real. The language is complex. The environment is different in almost every way.

But the mission is clear.

South Korea has a unique spiritual landscape. Many people have heard the name of Jesus, but that doesn’t always translate into a living relationship with Him.

There’s also a growing trend of people stepping away from the church. Burnout, cultural pressures, and distorted expressions of Christianity have left many disillusioned.

And yet, the opportunity is massive.

A Harvest That’s Ready

What stands out about Korean culture is the intensity.

When people commit, they go all in. That applies to work, community, and even faith.

But when that intensity is tied to performance instead of grace, it can lead to exhaustion.

That’s why the message of the gospel matters so much.

Not striving. Not earning. Not performing.

Receiving.

Zach and his team are part of a growing effort to share that truth, not just through words, but through presence, service, and relationship.

The Simplicity of the Mission

At the end of the conversation, Zach shared something that cuts through all the complexity:

“Go tell someone about Jesus.”

That’s it.

No complicated strategy. No perfect script. Just a willingness to step into someone’s life and share the truth that changed yours.

For Zach, it was a friend who extended an invitation.

That one moment changed everything.

What This Means for You

You may not be moving to South Korea.

You may not be starting a telecom company.

But the principle is the same.

Your work matters. Your relationships matter. Your obedience matters.

The question is not whether you’re called to ministry.

If you’re in Christ, you already are.

The real question is: how are you living it out in what’s already in your hands?
